Unrested

I began responding to another friend's blog when I came to realize that I had more to write on the matter than I thought. So, it only made sense to expose my thoughts to the larger world.

"I remember someone saying to me that if I want to make a difference globally, I would need to start locally. Where do I start?"

Both my parents are registered as republicans. That doesn't mean that they agree with and vote everything that comes from the Republican Party, they simply agree with more of what republicans are working towards than the democrats. It does mean that every two years they have the opportunity to work in the "grass-roots" political scope.

I recall mom and dad cleaning house and bringing in as many chairs as we had to the front room in order to hold our district caucus meeting.

When I was old enough I decided to attend and from said activity I became a district representative. I really didn't know what that meant, but I soon found out as I was contacted by different politicians.

Sitting in a restaurant talking one on one with individuals of my local legislature, talking about the issues of the time and how they felt about them, and then about how I felt about them. Attending meetings where I saw that one vote really did make the difference.

It was an experience that I will remember, and hopefully when I will have many more opportunities to change the government for what I see as the betterment of all.

Look at what's around you, get an idea about where you stand on the issues and join a party that you agree with the most, even if it isn't completely, because it's too hard to do it alone.
